Mahepõllumajanduslik tootmine peaks 2025. aastal kasutama 100% mahevalgust, kuid mahevalgu kättesaadavus on piiratud.
Rannakarjajahu võib mahepõllumajanduslike sigade ja sigade toidus asendada teisi vähem säästvaid valgurikkaid koostisosi, eelkõige kalajahu. Lisaks võivad rannakarbid lämmastiku ja fosfori omastamise kaudu vähendada vee eutrofeerumist.
Söödakulu, kaalutõus ja munemine püsivad normaalsel tasemel, kui söödetakse rannakarpijahu kasvatus- ja lõpptoiduks ettenähtud sigadele või munevatele sigadele. Munade kvaliteet on hea, kusjuures munakollane on oranži värvi, võrreldes kalajahu söötmisega (joonis 1).
