Organic Farming Sectoral Conference 2023 - February 28th, Hungary

Conference about the future of organic agriculture in the context of global challenges and the European Common Agricultural Policy in Hungary, Kecskemét.

The Organic Farming Sectoral Conference 2023, organized ÖMKi the hungarian Research Institute of Organic Agriculture will provide a variety of professional programmes, interesting topics, national and international speakers and workshops for the exchange of experiences. Current and future actors in organic farming, like farmers, advisors, researchers, students, practitioners and anyone interested in the topic are invited to join the conference.

The aim of the conference is to share and discuss the key opportunities, challenges and experiences shaping the future of organic farming, with an inspiring look at outstanding international experiences.

International guests of the conference:

  • Geetie Singh-Watson, ethical food entrepreneur and founder of London's first organic pub, DUKE of CAMBRIDGE (1998) and THE BULL INN & ALBATROSS (2019), will discuss the importance and feasibility of local, seasonal and organic dining. Geetie was voted Businesswoman of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year in England in 2009.
  • Guy Singh-Watson, organic gardener and founder of Riverford Farm and Community in England, who turned his small family business into a national organic vegetable basket community and then sold his company to his employees rather than investors. His environmental, social and economic beliefs are an inspiration to thousands of people around the world. Now he is bringing his most important messages to a national audience.
  • Dr. Knut Schmidtke, Professor at the University of Dresden, Director of the Swiss Institute for Ecological Agricultural Research (FiBL), is a practical specialist in organic arable farming, exploring the possibilities of protecting against the extreme effects of climate change and strategies for organic arable nutrient supply - with a focus on the potential of livestock-free farms.

The conference will provide various planery sessions, discussion rounds concerning topics like:

  • Plenary Session – History of Riverford Farm and lessons learned
  • Organic arable farming – solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change
  • Sustainable food production – panel discussion, Local, seasonal and organic food – can we make it happen?
  • Arable land seminar – Nutrient supply in organic farming without livestock
