Bioloģiskajā ražošanā 2025. gadā būtu jāizmanto 100 % organiskās olbaltumvielas, taču bioloģisko olbaltumvielu pieejamība ir ierobežota.
Mīdiju milti var aizstāt citas mazāk ilgtspējīgas olbaltumvielām bagātas sastāvdaļas, jo īpaši zivju miltus, bioloģiski audzētu cūku un slāņu uzturā. Turklāt gliemenes var samazināt ūdens eitrofikāciju, uzņemot slāpekli un fosforu.
Barības uzņemšana, svara pieaugums un olu dēšana saglabājas normālā līmenī, ja ar gliemeņu miltiem baro audzējamās un nobarojamās cūkas vai dējējvistas. Olu kvalitāte saglabājas laba, un dzeltenums ir oranžākas krāsas, salīdzinot ar zivju miltu izbarošanu (1. attēls).

This practice abstract was elaborated in the Organic Knowledge Network on Monogastric Animal Feed project. The project is running from January 2018 to December 2020.
