Common bunt (Tilletia caries) is a seed borne pathogen of wheat that causes damage even at low thresholds of infection. However, correct seed management can help organic farmers prevent or at least minimise infection.
Šķīdums
Advice on how infection can be minimised through detection, harvesting practices, seed management and post-harvest treatments.
Apraksts
In this video, plant breeder and common bunt researcher Anders Borgen from Agrologica (DK) briefly describes how to manage bunt. He gives indications on how bunt spores spread to contaminate seed, the harvesting machinery, then the farm more generally. He provides advises on how farmers can detect infection and on methods to minimise spread, namely through trusted seed systems, correct harvesting and handling of the seeds, post-harvest methods of cleaning and treatment of the seed.
