Overview on nutrient management, pest and weed control in organic crop rotations.
Description
This webinar presents information about managing nutrients and pests in organic small grain production. Nutrient management using crop rotations, cover crops, and approved organic fertilizers is discussed. A pest management hierarchy approached is also presented. The presenter explains that pest management is best achieved by building on a base of prevention practices, such as crop rotation and sanitation. A series of “many little hammers” is described as being the best approach to pest management in an organic system. The webinar is targeted both to newcomers and experienced organic farmers. Webinar contents are based on experiences made in the United States but concepts and hints can be applied in other countries.
