The biggest challenge to achieving higher and more stable yields in organic crop farming is linked to sufficient nitrogen supply and the control of aggressive weeds.
Solution
The RowCrop project has developed a row cropping system with cereals and cover crops that enables row cleaning in both crops.
Description
The cultivation system is composed of three elements: 1. row cleaning of cereals sown at 25 cm row spacing; 2. Establishment of nitrogen-fixing cover crops in between the rows at the last row cleaning; 3. row cleaning in the cover crop after harvest to control root weeds are controlled.
