The pollination performance of the honey bee is often insufficient in early flowering fruit species and cool weather. In intensively managed orchards, however, natural pollinators are often too few in number because they lack food and habitat. In particular, they are denied access by weather protection systems.
Solution
Bumblebees and mason bees, on the other hand, pollinate at lower temperatures and can improve pollination rates.
Description
In this video, Clémence Boutry of FiBL Switzerland introduces the most important mason bee species for fruit growing and shows how their cocoons are correctly deployed.
