Inkludering af sojamel i fjerkrædiæten er relevant som en kilde til protein af høj kvalitet. Men da soja plantes til både konsum og dyr, er omkostningerne høje.
Produktionen af tofu og sojamælk genererer okara som et affaldsprodukt, der kan tilsættes frisk eller tørret til fjerkrærationer, hvilket reducerer både inklusion af sojamel og omkostninger. På grund af det høje fiberindhold bør mængden af okara i kosten begrænses for at undgå et fald i foderoptagelsen.
Inddragelsen af okara i fjerkræfoderet har flere fordele. Den største fordel er relateret til bæredygtighed, fordi der anvendes et biprodukt, som ikke går til spilde. Den anden fordel er en mindre afhængighed af sojamel som kilde til protein og aminosyrer. Endelig resulterer faldet i sojaskrå i lavere foderomkostninger.

This practice abstract was elaborated in the Organic Knowledge Network on Monogastric Animal Feed project. The project is running from January 2018 to December 2020.
