At producere fuldt økologisk fjerkræfoder af regional oprindelse er udfordrende, især for proteinkilder, der tilbyder afbalancerede aminosyreprofiler. Desuden er ikke alle næringsstoffer, der er til stede i foder, tilgængelige for fordøjelsen.
For at optimere foderrationerne bør foder være baseret på fordøjelige næringsstoffer, næringsinteraktioner og indflydelsen af andre foderegenskaber.
Foderrationer, der tager hensyn til fordøjeligheden af næringsstoffer, kan udnytte regionale foderstoffer bedre og optimere sundhed, vedligeholdelse af kroppen og produktionsbehov. De bidrager til at forbedre dyrevelfærden, sænke omkostningerne og reducere kvælstofforureningen fra kompensationsfodring.

This practice abstract was elaborated in the Organic Knowledge Network on Monogastric Animal Feed project. The project is running from January 2018 to December 2020. The overall aim of OKNet EcoFeed is to help farmers, breeders and the organic feed processing industry in achieving the goal of 100% use of organic and regional feed for monogastrics.
