Sojajahu lisamine linnuliha toidulauale on oluline kvaliteetse valgu allikana. Kuna aga soja istutatakse nii inimeste kui ka loomade toiduks, on selle hind kõrge.
Tofu ja sojapiima tootmisel tekib okara jääkproduktina, mida saab lisada värskelt või kuivatatult kodulinnuratsioonile, vähendades nii sojajahu hulka kui ka kulusid. Suure kiudainesisalduse tõttu tuleks okara kogust toidus piirata, et vältida söödatarbimise vähenemist.
Okara lisamisel kodulindude toidule on mitmeid eeliseid. Peamine eelis on seotud jätkusuutlikkusega, kuna kasutatakse kõrvalsaadust, mis ei lähe raisku. Teine eelis on väiksem sõltuvus sojajahust kui valgu- ja aminohapete allikast. Sojajahu kasutamise vähenemine toob kaasa väiksema söödakulu.

This practice abstract was elaborated in the Organic Knowledge Network on Monogastric Animal Feed project. The project is running from January 2018 to December 2020.
