The objective of LIVESEEED is to improve transparency and competitiveness of the organic seed and breeding sector and encourage greater use of organic seed. LIVESEED is based on the concept that organic production should start with organic seed and cultivars adapted to organic systems are key for realising the full potential of organic agriculture. Research activities of LIVEEED cover legumes, vegetables, fruit trees, cereals and fodder crops, considering different farming systems across Europe.
LIVESEED is coordinated by IFOAM Organics Europe. It is a 4-year project and has 49 partners covering 18 European countries. The consortium includes multiple actors from: research institutes, breeding companies, seed companies, organic associations (farmers, processors, retailers) and national authorities. The project is funded by Horizon 2020.
