Animal welfare
Animal well-being is the basis for good animal health, as well as farm economics. The general ethical principles of organic animal husbandry, according to IFOAM – Organics International, are:
- Allowing animals to display their natural behaviour
- Welfare before productivity
- Preserving the health of animals' environment
- A systemic approach to controlling and preventing disease
- Painful routine management practices and mutilations are banned
