Farmers play a vital role in shaping rural landscapes, holding the potential to protect our environments while tackling climate change. Unfortunately, intensive agricultural remains a primary source of pollution for the soil, water, air and ecosystems. The use of synthetic agrochemical, genetically modified organisms and growth regulators is forbidden in organic production, ensuring residues do not contaminate the environment.
Working instead with natural processes and integrating with local ecology, environmental degradation caused by unsustainable agricultural practices can be mostly avoided. Environmental protection should be prioritised in organic farming, not only for the intrinsic value of nature but also to bolster the ecological goods and services which organic farmers benefit from.
Contained here are tools which provide information on practices related to environmental protection, and sustainable natural resource management on and surrounding your farm.
