The harmonisation of agricultural production systems with ecological processes, as well as sound social and economic practices, are the core principles of agroecology. But how are agroecological principles applied to farming practices? Agroecological farming practices, such as; the biological control of pests, integrating natural landscape elements into agricultural landscapes in order to decrease pesticide use, minimum tillage which increases soil biota activity and improve soil fertility. These are among some of the agroecological practices which aim to produce food in harmony with ecological processes, promoting sustainability, protecting biodiversity and mitigating climate change, while optimising ecosystem services.
