Biofruitnet – Boosting innovation in organic fruit production through stronger networks

This project is focusing on organic pome, stone and citrus fruits and aim to strengthen the competitiveness of European organic fruit production by:

  • Collecting and synthesizing existing practical and scientific knowledge on organic fruit-growing to distribute it widely among the EU countries through easy formats like e-learning, podcasts, videos and short articles.
  • Strengthening the established networks in organic fruit growing and establish links between them to create strong networks of organic fruit producers and stakeholders with a good flow of information.

Biofruitnet envisions a future where organic fruit production in the EU is easy to carry through, profitable and sustainable in the long term. To reach this goal, all parties involved in the sector stablish the following objectives:

  • Collect and synthesize existing knowledge ready for practise: scientific and practical knowledge available about healthcare strategies (pest & diseases, tree nutrition and suitability of varieties) in organic fruit production with special focus on tree fruits (stone fruits, pome fruits and citrus) is collected and synthetized.
  • Create a stable European innovation network: to facilitate exchange and co-creation of knowledge among organic fruit growers, researchers and advisors.
  • Strengthen established networks active in organic fruit cultivation to guarantee that a solid information flow is built to foster information transfer between researchers and practitioners and among European regions.
  • Widely distribute solutions. The compiled knowledge ready for practice is widely distributed across the EU and targeting different audiences (fruit growers, agricultural students, advisors) making use of new tools such as short tutorial videos and podcasts adapted to the needs of farmers.
  • Extend the Organic Farm Knowledge Platform

Biofruitnet is a 3-year project and is coordinated by Naturland. It has 16 partners from 12 European countries. It is funded by Horizon 2020.
