A biotakarmányok iránti kereslet növekedése várhatóan korlátozza a fehérje elérhetőségét. Ezért új és fenntarthatóbb, fehérjében gazdag összetevőkre van szükség.
A tengeri csillagokat azért fogják ki, hogy csökkentsék a tenyésztett kagylók ragadozását. A tengeri csillagliszt 38-70% fehérjét tartalmaz, és más, fehérjében gazdag összetevők részbeni helyettesítésére használható a monogasztrikus takarmányban.
A tengerimalac-liszt etetése a halliszt etetéséhez hasonló növekedést eredményez a malacoknál. A tojótyúkok esetében a tojástermelés és a tojásminőség a szokásos szinten marad, ha legfeljebb 8% tengeri csillaglisztet etetnek.

This practice abstract was elaborated in the Organic Knowledge Network on Monogastric Animal Feed project. The project is running from January 2018 to December 2020.
